In the first half of October 2019 DISCLOSE will go to sea with the NIOZ research vessel the RV Pelagia. The focus for this cruise will be to collect video data with “Bruce” from multiple habitats between the Dogger Bank and Terschelling. In addition to the video data, acoustic data will also be collected at multiple frequencies using both the onboard Kongsberg MBES (multibeam echosounder) and TU-Delft’s new R2Sonic multispectral MBES. QPS Maritime software solutions will sponsor the needed software for logging (Qinsy), cleaning (Qimera), and mapping (FMGT) the acoustic data while on the cruise. The acoustic data will be used to decide upon the final locations for the video transects. By using this dynamic approach DISCLOSE will utilize the available ship time efficiently. Together the video and acoustic data will create a state of the art dataset to create a “fingerprint” for the different habitats.
